Lock your doors!

A friend of my best mate was filling her car up at a petrol station not far from where I live the other night. As she walked in to pay, the attendant looked at her weirdly and asked her if she was with anybody.
She told him no, and he proceeded to tell her not to panic, but a guy had just climbed into the back of her car as she was walking in. He asked her to act as if she was looking for something in the shop as he called the police.
The police arrived and apprehended the guy, who'd pushed the driver seat up so she wouldn't be able to see him when she got back to car. They found numerous knives inside his jacket.

He later admitted that he intended to rape and kill her once she'd gotten in her car and driven off.

This freaks me the hell out, it's like an urban myth that you just don't think would happen. I lock my car as soon as I get out to fill it up anyway, but shit. I'm definitely looking out for everything if I fill my car up at night, and I'll only be filling it up then if I really need to. I just never thought crazy stuff like this would happen here in little old Christchurch.
